Just had a new video released yesterday on You Tube. It contains most of the painting in my "Watchers" series, set to open Dec 14th, 2011 at AnArte Gallery in San Antonio, TX. The vide was produced by Mia Feigelson of Argentina. It is in Hi-definition, so it can be viewed in Full Screen, and contains close up details of some of the works to show actual textures of the works. The beautiful music is "Lux Aurumqe", composed and directed by Eric Whiracre. "Lux Aurumque" means "light & gold"...please enjoy and share :)

"Sentinel" Wins 1st Place Gold Medal for Painting

My painting titled, "Sentinel" was accepted into the "Night of 100 Angels" exhibition at Whelan Gallery in Laguna Beach, CA. The opening is scheduled for Aug 20, 2011, and the show ends Sept 20, 2011. While Prevailed ("Wounded Angel)", Red Winged Angel, and Gilded Wings also made it into the exhibition, I was pleased to learn that "Sentinel" took 1st Place honors and a gold medal in the juried exhibition. The works will all be published in a book titled, "Night of 100 Angels".

"Odyssey" in Finals for Saatchi Online "Showdown"

On a fluke, I entered this piece, "Odyssey (After Bierstadt)", 48" x 48", into the Saatchi Online Showdown. The entry was free, and the winner has a chance for exhibition of the work in the fabulous Saatchi Gallery in London. So, why not? I thought nothing more about it until I learned it had made into the final 128, after surviving a field of 5,716 entries! At the time of this writing, it appears I may make it into the final round of 16. I made the facial features completely obscured to add a touch of mystery, and anonymity to the figure. Created with metal leaf, chemical oxidation and oil on panel.

Found out recently that 2 of my drawings were selected for inclusion in the book, "Strokes of Genius 3: The Best of Drawing", set to be published in Oct 2011. I was surprised and honored to have work selected for this. Will post images of the works after the publication date.

Hello friends. I found out recently that my work was published in Poets and Artists magazine, Nov 2009 issue. I knew they were doing a spread inside (8 pages), but I had no idea they would give me the cover too! What a delightful surprise! This is the image they selected for the cover. The title is "Landscape", 48" x 48", oil on copper and composition gold leaf, on birch. Some of the colors are the result of chemically-induced oxidation.

Selected for Florence Biennale, 2009

Got some exciting and unexpected news today. Was notified of selection into the 2009Florence Biennale scheduled for December 5 -13, 2009, in Florence, Italy! I am deeply honored and humbled to be selected into such a wonderful international exhibition. Now, if I can just get some sponsors....

Exhibition Cancelled due to Hurricane IKE!

My solo exhibition originally scheduled to open Oct 11, 2008, at the Buchanan Gallery in Galveston, Texas, has been cancelled. Hurricane Ike blew away the gallery and most of the island, so the exhibit will be indefinitely postponed. Right now, we expext much of the work to be available on Nov 29, 2008 at the Buchanan Gallery, if everything comes together by then. Will keep you posted!

This work is titled, "Genuflect" (see Virgin of Basra). It is part of my "Geomorphosis" series scheduled to open October 11th in Galveston, TX. It was created with copper leaf, composition gold leaf, chemically-induced patinas, and oil on birch. This piece is 36" x 36"...others in the exhibit will be 48" x 48", and 48" x 72". My Latest Abstract Encaustic Work

Well, here's my latest abstract piece created with encaustics on wood. Title: Birthstone. It's 24" x 24", copyright Jul 2008, All rights reserved. I have been very busy working for my upcoming solo exhibition in Galveston, scheduled for this coming October. This piece was inspired by the works I am creating for the Geomorphosis series, but I am holding onto this one for future study. Off to the studio!

Piece Accepted Into San Antonio Artists Exhibition

This painting was, miraculously, selected for the San Antonio Artists Exhibition to be held at the SA Art League Museum in San Antonio in April. The piece is titled. "Release", the medium is beeswax, resin, and pigment on cradled birch panel. The size is 36" x 24", framed at 40" x 28", and will be available for sale to the public. I feel fortunate, yet somewhat empty about the selection into this show. Having seen much of the work that was selected, and the many exceptional works that were rejected, I feel a deep sadness about the state of contemporary art in America. I'll reserve additional comment about this in a blog entry to come.

Small Encaustic Available at Say Si Silent Auction

Painting Selected for Museum Exhibit in Europe

This painting, "Virgin of Basra" was selected for inclusion in an exhibition opening in February 2008, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Macedonia. The exhibition, titled, "Cataclysm and Creativity: Art in an Age of Uncertainty", was curated by Dr. Carey Rote, of Texas A&M University,Corpus Christi, and the head curator of the museum in Skopje, Macedonia. In Sept 2008, the exhibit will travel to Texas A & M, Weil Gallery. The painting is 24" x 24" (framed at 31" x 31"), oil and 23k gold leaf on birch panel, copyright 2006. It was painted in a manner I was employing at that time.

Many thanks to those of you who attended my opening on Dec 13--I appreciate your support and patronage more than you know! The gallery looked fantastic, the music and company were terrific, and half the artwork found new homes before the evening was over. Sometimes I have to pinch myself when I realize how fortunate I am. So few of us get to earn a living doing exactly what we love. As 2007 comes to a close, I want to proclaim how very grateful I am for the privilege.

Here's another encaustic piece from the "Dance" series. I am thoroughly enjoying the process of painting with this medium. I look to produce many more pieces in 2008 using this process. This piece is entitled, "Amber Solo" , after the dancer/choreographer, Amber Ortega-Perez, who modeled for the work.
